Online gambling rules in British Columbia

The casino at St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino is a building with doors, an ID check and posted hours. Online play in British Columbia runs under separate rules, and this page sets them out.

The law

What the law says in BC

BCLC runs PlayNow.com, and in British Columbia it is the one legal online gambling site. The province's regulator since April 13, 2026 has been the Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO). Its position is that any other site letting BC players in is operating illegally in the province.

The legal age for gambling in British Columbia is 19. That age covers casinos and online play alike. At the casino on Mission Road, government-issued photo ID is shown at every visit. Online, the same age limit applies on PlayNow.com.

Protection

What a private site takes away

A BC resident who plays on a private online casino has none of the provincial protections. PlayNow limits do not apply there. Game Break does not apply there either. A complaint about a private site cannot go to the IGCO.

Game Break is BCLC's voluntary self-exclusion program, which means a person asks to be kept out of gambling for a set time. Enrolment is in person at any casino, with government-issued photo ID. A term is 6 months, 1 year, 2 years or 3 years. Once chosen, it cannot be changed. It also covers PlayNow.com for the same period.

This guide

The Ad links on this guide

Cranbrook Casino Scorecard writes about a resort and a casino; it is not one. Nobody can bet, book a tee time or a room, or open an account here. Paid links sit on the home page only, each labelled Ad: the menu button, a block under the first screen and a block near the bottom.

All three lead to one private online casino partner. That partner pays the guide a commission. It is not PlayNow.com, and it is not run or licensed by the province. The partner can change, and no page names it.
